Protein: the Manual for Men

June 17, 2015 by Dan Redding Leave a Comment

Check out this huge new responsive site I built for Men’s Health! The site is called ‘Protein: the Manual for Men’ and it’s conveniently located at menshealth.com/meat. This responsive standalone site is packed to the brim with recipes, photography, slideshows, and video. It’s kind of a multimedia meat smorgasbord. The site was designed by myself and developed by the ultra-talented Magnetic State freelancer Cécile Williams.

New Work: EverPower Corporate Reports

March 9, 2014 by Dan Redding Leave a Comment

Last year, Magnetic State designed two corporate reports for EverPower wind energy supplier: their Ten-Year Anniversary Report and Corporate Social Responsibility 2013. The documents were designed by myself and freelancer Monica Susantio, who brought her impeccable layout and typography skills to the project.

New Work: Coldfront Magazine

March 4, 2014 by Dan Redding Leave a Comment

Coldfront Magazine

New in the Magnetic State portfolio: custom responsive website for Coldfront Magazine. The site uses the WordPress CMS and the responsive CSS framework Bootstrap. It was designed by myself and developed by Magnetic State freelance assistant Raju Maharjan.

This was a particularly exciting and personal job for me: many years ago, I designed Coldfront’s logo and the previous incarnation of their site. The opportunity to redesign their magazine in the era of responsive design was huge: the web had evolved a great deal since our first site design. In order to modernize and improve the site, I knew some of goals we’d need to tackle: we needed a responsive layout, we required a custom Post type for the Reviews section, and perhaps most urgently, we needed to standardize image sizes in order to create harmony throughout the site’s layouts. I’m happy to say that all of these improvements, and more, have been made. Please take a look.

Coldfront head honcho John Deming contributed thoughtful and creative ideas along the way, and is so gracious that he is currently featuring a Magnetic State ad on the site. Many thanks to Coldfront and Raju!

Responsive Features Pt. 2

October 5, 2013 by Dan Redding Leave a Comment

Earlier this year, I designed and developed two responsive feature article pages for Men’s Health and Women’s Health (read the blog post ‘Why Your Business Needs Responsive Design’ that I wrote for Command C). This summer, we applied that design style to a handful of new feature articles. Please check out a selection of highlights below! I developed each one to be responsive and unique showcases of the content.

Branding Greenpoint

November 24, 2010 by Dan Redding 8 Comments

Greenpoint Logo

Above: two-color Greenpoint logo.

I’m happy to present my Greenpoint logo and full brand identity for the Greenpoint Business Alliance. As I mentioned earlier, I was hired by the GBA for what was easily the most personal challenge of my design career: to brand my home of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. What I have developed is a flexible brand identity that can be presented as a one-word Greenpoint logo or a full brand identity for the GBA, depending on the context. These elements will be visible around the neighborhood this weekend on a holiday shopping brochure that I designed.
